At First Impressions Dentistry of Yukon, our dental team is committed to saving teeth that are affected by severe damage and decay. While tooth-colored fillings, dental crowns, and even veneers are often enough to treat the problem, an infection that reaches the inner pulp requires a more invasive procedure. With root canal treatment in Yukon, we can remove the damaged tissue, save your tooth, and ultimately, restore your smile. What Happens During a Root Canal?

Once we diagnose the problem, one of our skilled dentists will administer local anesthesia to numb the affected tooth and nearby areas. Using a rubber dam to isolate the tooth, this device helps to prevent moisture from reaching the tooth during the procedure while also minimizing the spread of bacteria. A small opening is then created in the crown of the tooth so that we can reach the pulp chamber and root canals. After removing the tissue and infected pulp, we will begin to flush out the canals and ensure they are properly cleaned and shaped before filling them with gutta-percha – a biocompatible material that seals the space and prevents bacterial accumulations in the future.

We will then seal the opening of the tooth before taking an impression and having a custom-made dental crown crafted for optimal protection.
