What Are Dental Implants?

Designed to replace one or more missing teeth, dental implants are durable, long-lasting, and highly effective forms of tooth replacement. Consisting of three parts, including the titanium post, an abutment, and a prosthetic crown, a dental implant is placed within the jawbone so that it can fuse with surrounding tissues and create a solid foundation for your new smile.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  • Initial Dental Implant Consultation – You will meet with your implant dentist and discuss the status of your oral health. We’ll also take the necessary X-rays and use our cone beam scanner to plan your treatment. After going over your medical history, we’ll decide if you need preliminary treatments (i.e., bone grafting, sinus lift, etc.) and how soon you can expect to receive your dental implants.
  • Dental Implant Surgery – Using local anesthesia to alleviate any possible pain, our team of doctors will ensure you are comfortable before small incisions in the gums are made. Using the titanium posts, the doctors will position them within the jawbone and cover the area using healing caps to ensure that the bone fuses with your implants.
  • Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment – After you are fully healed from surgery, and your prosthetics have fused with the bone through osseointegration, you will undergo a second procedure that requires attaching the abutments to your implants. These make it possible for your restoration to connect to your posts and remain secure.
  • Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s) – The final step includes the creation and placement of your finalized restoration. Whether it is a crown, bridge, or denture, we will ensure that it matches your natural teeth in appearance and function. What you will see in the end is a new smile that looks beautiful and functions just like regular teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

The benefits you can expect to receive with dental implants go far beyond anything you might experience with other forms of tooth replacement. Not only will you enjoy a smile that looks younger, functions at an optimal level, and maintains a stable and secure foundation (jawbone), but you can also expect to eat the foods you love without worry, speak more clearly when around others, and enjoy a smile that can last decades if not a lifetime.

Who Dental Implants Can Help

If you are missing one tooth, multiple teeth, or an entire arch, there is a good chance you will be given the green light to receive dental implants. Most individuals suffering from tooth loss can expect a better-quality smile with the help of these prosthetics; however, for some, it may take longer to receive than others. The reason is that some patients might need additional forms of treatment before undergoing dental implant surgery.

No matter your situation, you can expect that we will go over this information during your consultation as well as discuss the versatility of these prosthetics.

Missing One Tooth

A single dental implant can replace one missing tooth and leave all healthy teeth untouched. By filling in the vacant socket only, we can rebuild your smile from the root up and allow for maximum stability and function.

Missing Multiple Teeth

When multiple teeth are missing in a row, we can use two dental implant posts and a custom-made bridge to fill in the gap. As a natural-looking solution that focuses solely on the vacant sockets and not the use of healthy abutment teeth, your entire smile can remain in better shape for years to come.

Missing All of Your Teeth

Entire rows of missing teeth along the upper and lower arches can be easily replaced using between four and six dental implant posts. This creates a stable smile that makes for easier eating, speaking, and more confident smiling.

Also, if your jawbone is not dense enough to support a full implant denture, we can use All-On-4 to achieve the same results. Using only four posts and a custom denture, we will pinpoint the densest areas of your jawbone to ensure maximum stability.
