In today’s post, we’re going to look at a few of our favorite pieces of dental technology and how they help improve your trip to the dentist office and benefit your health.
Single-visit crowns
If you’ve had a root canal or implant in the past, you probably remember:
- Biting down on a tray full of goopy and sticky material
- Waiting and trying not to move while the sticky impression material hardened
- Hoping the hardened impression didn’t get stuck to your teeth — or else you’d have to start all over again
- Waiting a bit longer while your dentist crafted a temporary crown and fitted it to your tooth
- Going home and hoping your temporary crown didn’t break or fall off while you were eating
- Making a trip back to the dentist for another appointment to fit the finished crown once it was back from the dental lab
All in all, not a great experience for busy people!
Now, thanks to some really cool dental technology, this process is a thing of the past at First Impressions Dentistry’s Yukon office. We’ve invested in CEREC technology that allows us to create a fully-finished crown in just a few minutes, with no goopy impressions and no temporary crown needed.
You heard us right: A finished crown in just a single visit.
Using advanced imaging technology, we take a “picture” of your mouth. Then computer software turns the image into a digital blueprint that the CEREC machine can use to create your crown. CEREC uses a healthy and natural porcelain-like material which it shapes into a perfectly fitting and natural-looking crown in minutes.
Then we’ll place it in your mouth and you’re ready to get back to living your life. That’s all there is to it!
CEREC crowns are not just an alternative to traditional crowns, they’re even better:
- The imaging technology is incredibly precise and ensures your crown will fit perfectly
- The crowns are made from a healthy and natural material that looks and functions just like your natural teeth
- Your crown will be incredibly strong and durable and built to last for at least 10 years
High-tech teeth whitening treatments that work wonders
When you love how your teeth look, you’ll smile more and be happier. It’s just a fact. Unfortunately, stubborn tooth stains can make you look older and affect your self-confidence. Many people try to whiten their teeth with whitening strips they can buy at the grocery store. But too often, people get frustrated with the hassle and less-than-dramatic results that over-the-counter whitening provide. The results also fade quickly.
But at First Impressions Dentistry, there are teeth whitening treatments that live up to their promises!
At First Impressions Dentistry we’re proud to offer both in-office and at-home whitening treatments that exceed our patients’ expectations every time.
Zoom! Whitening
Zoom! Whitening can brighten teeth by up to 8 shades of whiteness in a single 45-minute visit. It’s a great choice for anyone who is looking for dramatic whitening without the wait. Unlike some other teeth whitening treatments, Zoom! is even great for people with sensitive teeth.
The Zoom! Whitening system uses a powerful gel chemically formulated to whiten teeth. To speed up the process, we use a specially designed LED light to activate the gel’s whitening power. That’s all there is to it.
At-home whitening system
Here’s one of the problems with those whitening strips. They’re not made just for you. You can’t be sure they’ll fit your teeth properly. We’ve solved that problem at First Impressions Dentistry with our custom-made take-home whitening trays. We’ll create trays that fit your mouth perfectly, fill with a specially formulated whitening gel and wear for just a few minutes a day.
They’re a great way to preserve the whiteness of your teeth in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Plus results are far more impressive than anything you’ll find in a box at the drugstore!
Technology makes all of our treatments better
We don’t just use technology to improve a few of our treatments. Our investment in dental technology helps you get more out of every visit to First Impressions.
Intra-oral camera
We believe that our patients have a better experience at our office and feel as though they have more control over their health when they work collaboratively with their dentist. That’s why we’ve got a really cool intra-oral camera that lets you see what your dentist sees. You and your dentist will talk about your oral health and you’ll see firsthand what’s going on. You’ll better understand the treatment options available to you and what you can expect from your treatment.
Digital x-rays
Early detection of cavities and other oral health problems is key. For example, when cavities are discovered in the earliest stages, the fillings can be smaller and you can keep more of your natural tooth structure.
Unfortunately, old-fashioned radiographic x-rays used to diagnose cavities have some drawbacks:
- They’re finicky and it can be hard to get a good image
- Even in the best case scenario, they don’t provide a high level of detail
At our offices, we use modern digital x-rays that use a fraction of the radiation of older x-rays but produce images with incredible details in just seconds. Our team uses these digital x-rays as diagnostic tools and to plan restorative procedures.
